One Piece Chapter 1168 takes us into one of the darkest turning points in Elbaf’s history—a chapter where freedom demands blood, loyalty demands sacrifice, and power reveals its true, merciless nature. Oda once again reminds us that the world of One Piece is shaped not only by pirates and warriors, but by the hidden decisions made in the shadows of the World Government.
In this chapter, we witness King Harald’s desperate attempt to protect Elbaf, the heartbreaking death of Eda on a snowy day, and the terrifying revelation of IMU Sama’s Three Contracts, a system designed to control entire nations. And at the center of it all stands Loki—isolated, imprisoned, and unable to even say goodbye to his mother.
Chapter 1168 is not just a continuation of the saga…
It is a message: In the world Oda created, freedom has a price—and IMU decides how high it is.
Elbaf’s Future Decided: King Harald’s Final Announcement

For generations, Elbaf was seen as a land of fear — a kingdom of warriors so powerful that even Marines hesitated to approach them. But King Harald spent his entire life fighting against this old image. A normal man among giants, yet someone whose determination slowly changed how the world looked at Elbaf.
Harald worked tirelessly to build bridges with other nations. His efforts brought a new era where:
- Giants began serving proudly in the Marine ranks
- Common people no longer trembled at the sight of a Giant
- Travelers openly praised the taste of Elbaf’s famous seafood
- And most importantly… the violent image of Elbaf’s warriors finally softened
Slowly, the world started seeing Elbaf not as a threat—but as a culture worth knowing.
As a nation worth respecting And now, standing before thousands of giants, King Harald finally made the announcement he had dreamed about his entire life:
“When we become a member nation… our people will be free to visit every land.
We are one step away. Our future has never been brighter.”
The crowd erupted.
Giants — known for their pride and power — were smiling, celebrating, embracing hope.
Elbaf even had its own school, a symbol of peace and progress—something unthinkable in their ancient warrior society. Harald then shared a quiet moment with Jaguar D. Saul, acknowledging how far their kingdom had come… and how much had changed.
And behind all of this? Behind the festivals, the acceptance, the peaceful future? It was Eda. Her influence, her kindness, and her unseen sacrifices had shaped the new Elbaf. She was the silent reason a warrior nation could dream of peace.
Eda’s Death on a Snowy Day – A Mother’s Silent Farewell

While King Harald and Saul are discussing Elbaf’s bright future, the chapter shifts into a quiet flashback—one that carries both warmth and tragedy. We see Eda and King Harald sharing a gentle, heartfelt conversation about how everything changed after she came into Elbaf. Their bond is soft, honest, and surprisingly romantic. Harald even expresses his wish to make Eda his legal wife, hoping to build a future where Elbaf stands proudly connected to the entire world.
But this warm moment…
turns out to be their final conversation. Because soon after, on a cold snowy day, Eda passes away. King Harald breaks down in tears. Hajrudin cries beside him. The entire kingdom feels the weight of her loss.
But the one who suffered the most was Loki, Locked inside the Underworld Detention Center, he couldn’t even see his mother one last time. He was imprisoned because, in anger, he had burned his biological mother’s hometown—after discovering they had poisoned Eda. The guilt and rage trapped him long before the prison walls did.
News of Eda’s death eventually reached him. He didn’t cry… but the pain on his face said everything.
Silent suffering, shaking emotions, and a loneliness he couldn’t escape. Poor Loki lost everything—and had no way to hide the heartbreak.
Loki Imprisoned – The Crown Prince Who Lost Everything

When news of Eda’s death finally reached Loki, he didn’t shed a single tear. But the pain on his face… the trembling silence… told a different story. He was suffering from the inside, completely shattered, and had no way to express it.
Loki lost the only person who ever treated him like family And he lost her while being locked deep inside the Detention Center. It’s tragic how every person Loki ever admired disappeared from his life.
His idol, Rocks D. Xebec, was long dead.
And the one woman he finally accepted as his true mother—Eda—was gone forever.
The saddest part?
He wasn’t even allowed to see Eda’s body one last time. A goodbye he desperately deserved… but never received. Now Loki stands completely alone. To many people of Elbaf, he is the “Cursed Prince”, a symbol of bad luck—someone marked by tragedy from birth. Most giants avoid him, whisper about him, or fear the chaos that seems to follow him.
But there was one person who didn’t. Monkey D. Luffy. When Luffy met Loki for the first time, he didn’t judge him. He simply smiled, talked to him normally, and even casually asked if he wanted to join his crew. Luffy saw a hurting human being—not a cursed prince. And for the first time in Loki’s life… someone treated him like a friend. Hopefully, Luffy will be the one to free Loki from the suffering he’s carried alone for so many years.
IMU Sama’s Deadly Deep Sea Contract & the Tragic Death of King Harald

Fourteen years ago, a secret meeting took place in Mary Geoise. Shanks had gone missing—right before he was supposed to be formally knighted. With no candidate left for the God Knights, the Five Elders made a shocking decision:
King Harald of Elbaf would be chosen as the next God Knight. Harald was summoned to the Empty Throne… a place where no one was ever supposed to sit.
But the moment he entered the chamber, he froze.
“Why… why is someone on the Empty Throne?”
Just like Nefertari Cobra, Harald was struck with disbelief. The figure sitting there was none other than IMU Sama. Harald had already accepted the “Shallow Sea Contract” years ago. But now… IMU was offering something far more dangerous: “The Deep Sea Covenant.”
The same cursed mark that Killinghum carries began to form on Harald’s body.
A violent surge of power tore through him—strength beyond imagination. The Five Elders declared:
“This is the power of immortality.” And just like that, King Harald became an Immortal Knight…
A soldier who would live forever, but only to serve IMU alone.
Harald returned to his homeland and opened the Abyss Pentagram—his method of communicating directly with IMU. But the mission he received shattered him inside. IMU ordered:
“Turn every giant into a warrior. Elbaf’s entire population will serve under me.” Harald refused. He had spent his whole life fighting to free Elbaf from violence. Not to turn his people into weapons.
But IMU finally revealed the truth: Anyone who accepts the Deep Sea Covenant gains immortality…
but loses their free will. Total obedience. Even if the heart disagrees, the body will obey IMU’s command. At that moment, Harald realized the truth: IMU never wanted Elbaf as a member nation.
He wanted Elbaf’s warriors as slaves.
Harald’s body began moving against his will. He summoned every giant warrior. He called his sons.
He even unlocked Loki from the prison… because Hajrudin wasn’t present. And then… everything collapsed. The narrator reveals: “That day… countless giants died. And on that same day… King Harald lost his life.” The man who gained immortality died on the very day he was reborn.
All he ever wanted was peace. A future where giants weren’t hated. A world where his children could live without fear. He spent his entire life fighting for that dream… and sacrificed everything for it. But in the end— the world government turned his hope into a weapon and his dream into a curse.
📢 Let’s Talk!
Next chapter might finally reveal how King Harald actually died… and why Loki was blamed for killing his own father. We’ll also see how Loki managed to strike down an “immortal” Harald, and whether he really consumed one of Elbaf’s forbidden Devil Fruits or not.
Next week is a break, so we’ll get all these answers the week after—and trust me, Oda is setting up something huge.
